SR OPERATIONS SPECIALIST - CATHODIC PROTECTION


POSITION SUMMARY


The Senior Operations Specialist - Cathodic Protection position will be based in the Tioga, ND area. This position will provide support to the Maintenance, Reliability & Integrity (MRI) Engineering group on Cathodic Protection System Management. This role involves well casing, vessel, tanks, and pipeline cathodic protection and will be key to ensuring equipment integrity and regulatory compliance. This position will support North Dakota base operations, mid-stream gathering and gas processing plant.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all cathodic protection (CP) work is performed in compliance with EHS and Process Safety expectations.
  • Collaborate with MRI engineering group on CP design for new and existing construction projects.
  • Provide Cathodic Protection Standard to contractors and ensure understanding of referenced Standard.
  • Ensure contractors have the proper tools required for CP installations.
  • Provide training on proper installation of isolation kits and test stations to contractor personnel.
  • Identify reliability improvement opportunities to production operations personnel and assist in delivering high impact, cost-effective solutions using advanced reliability analysis tools and techniques.
  • Direct CP survey crews and provide mapping and relevant data needed to ensure survey accuracy.
  • Manage CP systems including installation, data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and reliability.
  • Investigate and mitigate interference issues with pipelines operated by other transporters. Coordinate these efforts with the ground disturbance team to identify new lines and install test stations.
  • Perform and document External Corrosion Direct Assessments and make repairs as needed.
  • Manage all CP data. Investigate software systems for CP data management and present findings.
  • Research existing CP systems to ensure compliance with guidelines per NACE, PHMSA, and ANSI.
  • Provide input to the Integrity and Reliability budgetary forecast information.
  • Coach team members in the processes, polices, and effective use of tools and equipment related to CP.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience

  • Capable of providing technical support to North Dakota Operations, Facilities Construction, Engineering, and Maintenance personnel.
  • Capable of designing impressed current and sacrificial anode CP systems for well casings, pipelines and vessels.
  • Highly motivated self-starter willing to accept responsibility and accountability.
  • Process and Personal safety focused.
  • Teamwork and leadership – demonstrated ability to work effectively within teams with some experience in supervising tactical teams.
  • Communication – ability to communicate clearly and concisely on engineering related issues in written and verbal formats. Comfortable communicating to management, direct reports and peers.
  • Familiar with continuous improvement ideals and building customer-supplier relationships.
  • Standard computer literacy.
  • Holds current driving license.

  • Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of pipeline coating systems.
  • Must possess the ability to manage multiple projects with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Field experience within the oil and gas business is a plus. Role will require working with plant and production personnel, management, and regulatory agencies.

Travel & Relocation

  • Must be willing to relocate to Tioga, North Dakota.
  • Position requires travel up to 50% of the time, the majority within North Dakota; however, occasional travel to Houston may be required.

Education, Training & Certifications

  • Must have, or be able to acquire, Operator Qualification (OQ) Certification for pipeline maintenance and repair per DOT requirements for pipeline operators.
  • 10+ years’ experience of oil and gas experience including a strong background in cathodic protection system installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Understanding of relevant standards including NACE, PHMSA, and ANSI.
  • NACE certifications in Cathodic Protection and Corrosion (NACE CP2 preferred)
